Money Saving Trade Show Tip

A couple of ways to save money when you buy exhibition equipment. Regardless of when you are exhibiting have a look round at this time of year; December.
December is very quiet in the UK exhibitions market so many companies have spare capacity. Call a few up and see if there is a deal to be done. One thing to be wary of is price guarantee. Not all equipment or printing is of the same quality. Low quality, low cost equipment is fine if you only want to use it once but for a longer term investment make sure you are buying quality equipment. You don't have to pay lots for quality equipment; look for a product guarantee and if possible a satisfaction guarantee. There are plenty of companies that offer guarantee backed exhibition equipment at competitive prices.
Another trend which we have started and is proving popular is selling complete kits that include everything you need to exhibit. Not only do you save money but its easy to order. For example you may get a pop up stand, banner stands, literature rack , wheeled transport drum and graphics with savings up to 30%. I came across a site calledwww.exhibition-stand-shop.co.uk that sells discounted exhibition kits.

Cafe Barriers

Cafe barriers also know as cafe windbreaks. What are they for? Why use them. Cafe barriers can be see outside pavement cafes to close off an area of pavement to extend the seating area of cafes and restaurants. You will also see the in Airports and shopping malls. The popularity of cafe barriers has increase drastically this year since the smoking ban has come in in the UK. Now it is illegal to smoke inside, outside smoking areas have been created using cafe barriers.
Cafe barriers comprise of two upright posts or stanchions about 1m high and either one or two cross beams to hold a banner. The banner itself will either be a canvas or PVC material. Most are plain canvas or printed with a simple single colour logo. But digital printing means full colour is affordable so why not use you cafe barriers to create a theme. Another idea, why not get your suppliers to sponsor your banners. Coffee company, cake maker?

Things to look out for. Materials, since most cafe barriers are used outside choose a material that will last. Some companies offer stainless steel stanchions, ideal for outdoor use. Although two cross beams are more expensive the banner will hang better and look more professional. The cross beams need to be Strong, people have a tendency to lean on the which can cause them to bend. The stanchion base needs to be heavy enough to remain stable.

Crow Control Barriers

After a long search and testing numerous samples we have lunched a range of crowd control barriers. There are two main types the tensabarrier style retractable crowd control barrier and the traditional rope and post pedestrian stanchion. We felt the key to the crowd control barriers and retractable belt barriers was firstly stability so we have opted for a filled stable base and reliability of the belt mechanism. These retractable tape barriers need to be reliable so we have tested our extensively. Many samples we had failed after a few tests. The retractable mechanism either failed totally or lost tension so the tape would not fully retract. The conclusion? Cutting quality on retractable barriers is counter productive. Fortunately we have found a suppliers who can supply industry leading quality at a very competitive price. We chose two types of retractable tensabarrier stanchions. A single tape and a double tape. The single tape is available in red blue black and green tape and a choice of silver or black stanchions. Our double tape retractable barrier is ideal for banks and high traffic areas and is available with a silver stanchion and black tape.
For more traditional application we have top quality stainless steel stanchions with the use of rope barriers. Our full range of crowd control barriers can be found at our dedicated web site http://www.discountbarriers.com/

Or if there is a special birthday or a wedding anniversary you may decide to use a custom poster. There are many ways to use a custom poster. To make an enlarged picture for someone makes for a great way to remember the special occasion.
To make a custom poster you can choose to design it your self or have a professional do it for you. If you are paying someone to do it then you must give them the information you want to convey to people. If you are making it your self you need to find the equipment needed. Most people will choose to go to a store like Kinko’s or print the items up for themselves on their home computers. Many home computers and the printers used are quite capable of making a custom poster these days. but quality and size will be far better using an approved large format print supplier.

TOP 10 GRAPHICS PANEL TIPS

get the most from your trade show budget

You have only got seconds to attract passers by onto your exhibition stand. Your Exhibition Graphics can be the real showstopper. They need to be eye-catching, professional and informative. Here are a few hints and tips on how to get the best results with your large format trade show graphics

KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET
As we said you only have seconds to grab visitors attention. As a rule of thumb if the headline on your graphics panel takes more than three seconds to read there's too much text much. Use a punchy headline of about 6 words. Once you have grabbed their attention extra text can be used on the graphics panels to sell your business or annotate pictures but still keep in mind less is more.

USE THE RIGHT WORDS
Like all forms of marketing and advertising push the benefits of your products or service. What's in it for them! Benefits attract buyers. Tell trade show visitors how your product or service will help them 'Cuts trade show costs by 20 percent' "double your profits" or why not try a trade show special offer? "sign up today and get a free widget"

TYPE THAT IS TOO SMALL
Some of your graphics panels will be at the back of your stand so even on a small shell scheme passers by will be over 3m away. As a guide text needs to be 25mm high for every 1m your away. If your headlines are enticing enough visitors may move closer to read smaller detailed text so make sure your headlines are big enough.

FANCY FONTS
Keep it simple. Don't get too creative with fancy fonts. Keep headlines easily readable. Font like Times might be a bit boring but there must be a reason news papers use this style of serif font. Another good idea is to limit the number of fonts you use too many different styles make it look messy and are hard to read. Keep it just to a couple

POOR USE OF COLOURS
Avoid dark colours on dark backgrounds and light colours on light backgrounds. It gets trickier if your going to overlay text on a photographic background so take care. What looks fine on your computer monitor might not work when it's printed and on show under the lights on an exhibition stand. If your not sure ask your graphics company for advice and a printed proof.

HIDDEN GRAPHICS
You could have a stunning graphic but if it is hidden from view at the back of your stand behind a desk of product demonstration it’s wasted. When your planning your stand take into consideration where to place you graphics for maximum impact. And it’s not just equipment bear in mind if your stands a successful hopefully you’ll have plenty of visitors milling around. Consider placing your headlines at the top of your graphics panels so they can be seen above peoples head.

TOO MANY IMAGES
Images are great and now a days large format digital printing makes one off images affordable. But just like text keep it simple too many images can start to loose impact and look a bit messy. One high quality image can add real impact and get your message across at a glance.

POOR QUALITY
Two issues regarding quality. Firstly how good is the graphics company you are using and secondly how good is the artwork your sending them.
“Qulaity in Quality out“. Large format digital printers are capable of producing stunning photo realistic images but if you send them a poor image chance are you’ll get a poor graphics panels back.
If you present a poor image on your trade show stand how can your prospective client trust you to good a good job for them? A good graphics company will give you clear guidelines about how to provide the best artwork for large format digital print output. I would also expect them to call you and let you know if they think that the artwork will not be good enough quality. Many don’t they will simply print what you give them. If your not sure and have the time you could ask for a smaller test print. If in any doubt call them up and ask for an assurance that the image is good enough.
No photos are better than poor quality low resolution images. You only get one chance to make a good impression. If you need an image to sell your products, contact the manufacturers, do a photo shoot, try to find a high enough resolution picture from an image library.

POOR LIGHTING
You could have the best graphics in the world but if the lighting is poor your graphics make look poor too. Often you will not know what light quality to expect in a trade show exhibition hall so why not take your own?
Most portable display stand companies sell lighting. 200 watt halogen flood lights are popular for use on pop up exhibtion stands. To get an even spread of light you need to place your lights about 1m apart. Down lighting works better than uplighting unless your trying to create a specific effect.

LOOK AFTER YOUR GRAPHICS PANELS
Look after your investment. Graphics require carefully handling to avoid marks scratches and dents that can give a poor impression. Discuss your requirements with the graphics company they can advise you on the most suitable material for the job. A poster for a one day indoor event doesn’t need to be as durable (or expensive!) as a display panel to be used in your showroom. Extra durability can be provide by having your graphics laminated. Laminate protects the surface of the graphics from scratches, sticky fingers and liquid spills. Matt laminated also has the added benefit of preventing reflection from lights in and exhibition hall.
If your handling large panels get someone to help. It’s easy to dent or damage a corner trying to manouver graphics panels on your own. Be carefull packing and un packing your graphics. After a long show when everyone wants to rush off it’s easy just to chuck the graphics in a case. A little bit of extra time can save money and the hassell of reordering new graphic for the next show.

Computer Controlled Cutter

Large format digital printing goes form strength to strength. Full colour marketing and advertising literature can be produced faster and cheaper than ever before. There is a steady stream of new large format digital display printer being launched (sometimes referred to as grand format)

The increase in speed means bottle necks in sign makers and print shops is moving. At
http://www.digital-display-printing.co.ukwe experienced a bottle next in artwork preparation and design. Investment in faster MAC equipment helped but ultimately the only solution is bums on seats.

Once that problem was solved there were potentially 3 other bottle necks in the large format printing department. Capacity of large format digital printers, Laminating printed graphics such as
exhibition graphics, trade show panels and posters and finally finishing.

Large format printing capacity. Two options available run shifts (if you can find the staff!) Buy more machines, invest in faster machines. We choose the latter option because staff like a life, we are short on space and the new large format digital printing machines from HP not only offer much faster digital print speeds but also offer better print quality lower running costs and pigment based archival inks. The new inks and a wide range of new media means that large format printers can look at opening up new markets. Fine art, Canvas printing, UV stable window graphics, advertising banners, indoor posters, backlight graphics……..

With new designers and the latest HP large format graphics printers the bottle neck shifted to laminating. While there was less requirement to laminate and encapsulate graphics because of the more durable pigment inks the new HP printers offer an additional 50% print capacity. This one is easily solved with a new seal wide format laminator. A reliable industrial strength tool ideal for finishing off banner stand graphics, pop up exhibition graphics, trade show boards, point of purchase displays.

Now the bottle neck becomes finishing. One of the downsides to roll to roll large format printing is the need to trim the print to size once they are finished. Unlike screen printing where you are often printing finished panel size or have a lay up mark making guillotine cutting an option traditionally finishing large format digital print has been by hand. As large format printers get faster it becomes much harder to keep up with the output.

Our solution was to invest in a Zund flat bed automatic camera controlled cutter. The zund large format graphics cutter uses an automatic vision registration compensation system which means pre-printed graphics such as vinyl sign banners,
custom printed posters, stickers, and decals can be square cut contour cut or kiss cut with amazing precision.

The cutter is capable of contour cutting everything from paper posters and flexible pvc banners to rigid display panels up to 5mm thick. The extra router attachment makes easy work of 10mm foamex display boards. It has a massive 3m x 1.8m cutting bed plenty big enough to accommodate large retail displays and trade show boards.

From the sign makers or large format printers point of view it saves time, waste and offer better accuracy than even the most experienced person time and time again. The client gets improved quality, faster delivery and potentially lower cost for all types of large format print that requires finishing.

Graphics finishing is only one of many industries that the large format cutter is suitable for. I’m sure as the months go by we will find many new uses that can lead to new innovate display products so watch this space.

Sign Show UK large format printers

Just got back from the sign Show UK.
Plenty to see but of most interest were the direct to substrate large format printers. In particular the 250GT from OCE , The new Mimaki and a Du Pont printer. Each has benefits and disadvantages but all open up a hugh range of new posibilities to the sign maker. Posters, banners, hoardings, signs, plus more obscure ideas such as customised golf balls. key fobs ar even doors! Buing a printer seems to be the easy part marketing the large format out put is another matter. From the point of view of exhibition panels and trade show graphics what benefits do these direct to panel large format UV printers offer. The obvious benefit from a large format printers point of view is the labour saving. There is no need to laminate then mount the print to board and cut round it. Simply put an a pre cut board of the correct size and press print. Sound too good to be true? The downside I would say is the quality. The OCE arizona scored on quality followed closley by the Mimaki. ( the Du Pont printer we looked at has more industrial heads and is designed to produced "signage" quality at higher speeds) . I would say that at the moment the quality produced by a HP or Epson watrer based printer is still the way to go for high quality photo realistic exhibition and trade show panels . All the printers we saw were new to market so with some fine tuning the quality may improve. Watch this space.
